Praised by critics for his passionate expression and dazzling technique, Andrew Armstrong has delighted audiences around the world.  He visited us in 2003 and will be returning for another memorable concert.

He has performed solo recitals and appeared with orchestras in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States, including performances at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and Warsaw’s National Philharmonic.  He has performed with such conductors as Peter Oundjian, Itzhak Perlman and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, and in chamber music with numerous well-known groups.

During the  2008-2009 season, Armstrong will be the soloist in Mozart’s Concerto K .488 at the Chautauqua Music Festival under the direction of Stefan Sanderling and embrace Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with both Fairfax Symphony and the Nashville Symphony.  He is also to appear with the Toledo, Fairfax, Augusta, Waukesha and Missoula Symphonies.  He will present a pre-concert recital at the Mostly Mozart Festival.  Each preceding season he has offered an array of engagements with many orchestras and well-known performers.

Having performed over thirty-five concertos, Andrew Armstrong has impressed his audiences with a large repertoire ranging from Bach to Babbit and beyond. Before beginning his career as a concert pianist, he received over twenty-five national and international first prizes.  At the 1993 Van Cliburn Competition, where he was the youngest pianist entered, he received the Jury Discretionary Award.  Van Cliburn himself “in a rare showing of enthusiasm for an individual competitor,” called Mr. Armstrong “Fabulous! Fabulous!”

Andrew Armstrong is devoted to outreach programs and playing for children.  In addition to his many concerts and several CDs, his performances are heard regularly on National Public Radio and WQXR, New York City’s premier classical music station. Among numerous praising reviews, it has been said, “Armstrong displayed insight and delicate control of where the music was going at every moment,” “Not only does Armstrong explain some of the history of the music in the notes, but he reveals his motivation and interpretive goals.,” “The rich melodies were played with dazzling technique and musical clarity” and “If one goes by his dazzling technique, striking stage presence and exciting performance, we will probably be hearing a lot more about Armstrong in the future.” This is indeed a wonderful opportunity to hear an exceptional and popular star musician and we are very honored to be able to bring him to our city for his second visit.

Our Visual Artist for this exceptional concert will be Terrie Beyenberg.  She will exhibit some of her exquisite watercolors for us.

Tickets are available at the church office weekdays and at the door. Please call 386-445-2098 or e-mail wbveck3@cfl.rr.com for more information.
